Black River Valley Natural
A hands-on dairy manufacturer building a better path for emerging brands.
BRVN combines small-plant flexibility, dairy-processing experience, structured problem solving, and a growing quality system in Lyons Falls, New York.
Our next chapter
From building our own products to helping other brands build theirs.
Black River Valley Natural was built through direct experience making and selling value-added dairy products. That work created practical knowledge of milk, cultures, fermentation, pasteurization, curd, straining, filling, cold storage, sourcing, packaging, quality, customers, and the everyday realities of operating a small dairy plant.
BRVN's next chapter focuses that experience on co-manufacturing. Instead of treating outside production as an accommodation, the business is being organized around a repeatable pathway for brands that need development, validation, pre-ramp production, and a responsible bridge to commercial scale.
What we believe
A useful co-manufacturer must do more than operate equipment.
Tell the truth about fit
A fast, informed “not yet” is better than months of ambiguous development or a production failure.
Protect both parties
Confidentiality, ownership, specifications, scope, cost, and decision rights should be explicit.
Learn with real data
Trials and pre-ramp runs should create information about yield, labor, quality, timing, and economics.
Respect production capacity
Commercial capacity should be forecasted, reserved, funded, and reconciled—not treated as an unlimited on-demand resource.
Build repeatability
The objective is not merely a successful first batch. It is a controlled process that can be repeated consistently.
Strengthen the local economy
Growth at BRVN supports manufacturing capability, dairy agriculture, jobs, and economic activity in the Black River Valley.
Owner-led engagement
Meet James Munn.
James is BRVN's founder and an engineer, operator, and entrepreneur with decades of experience in manufacturing systems, quality, Lean problem solving, and business development.
Qualified co-manufacturing discussions are designed to move quickly into the questions that matter: technical feasibility, scale-up risk, process control, customer requirements, economics, timing, and whether the relationship can support both the brand and the plant.
